Description

The Dangler is a lightweight board that features plastic construction, a snappy Sitka spruce/birch laminate core. The finely-tuned shape makes this board the best choice for intermediate to expert riders seeking a versatile board for the wide range of snow conditions found in the mountains.

All-Mountain Rocker Profile

This directional rocker profile features a 425mm long, slow rise from the front foot to the tip that keeps the nose afloat in deep snow and pops the rider above breakable crust when things get spicy. A low camber section between the boots transfers pressure to the contact points on hard snow and ice but doesn’t interfere with soft snow shredding. The shorter, 350mm tail rocker makes for effortless turn release when slashing features or in tight spaces.

Mountain Velcro Technology

Fairweather’s exclusive Mountain Velcro Technology (MVT) provides increased edge grip and helps you stick to the mountains when the going gets icy. The outer edges are subtly shaped to increase edge pressure right by the bindings–where it matters–while minimizing the drag sometimes created by similar edge technologies.

Versatile Shape

The Dangler’s sidecut profile has all the right junk in all the right places. The nose is wide relative to the tail, which narrows up a tad. This floaty bow and nimble stern allow for easy speed control. Early taper in the tip shortens up the running length so the board rides shorter on harder snow or in tight terrain. Deep snow engages the length of the board for speed, float and power.

Construction Style

The Dangler comes standard in our plastic construction style in either split or solid shape.

As a hardcore shredder, you demand a lot out of your equipment! Plastic construction uses many of the same materials and processes the industry has settled on after generations of development for a board that very well could survive the apocalypse.

Protected from the elements with plastic on all sides, flexible, strong and fun, the guts of these boards remains true to their roots. A wood core made of local spruce or birch which has yet to be improved upon by the nerds in the lab. Other major components of our Plastic construction are industry standard Triaxial fiberglass which provides strength down the length of the ski along with torsional ridgitiy. The sides are made of polyurethane plastic, a similar material to a skateboard wheel, the bottoms are sintered P-tex. The tops have a lightweight tough nylon layer that is coated in a water based polyurethane for UV stability.

From an environmental standpoint, the average consumer would probably be shocked to learn the sheer volume of microplastics, waste, and toxic chemicals that are generated by a product such as a pair of skis. We’re continually tweaking our construction process to use fewer and/or less toxic chemicals, both for the environment and our own personal health. At the end of the day, a product with a longer service life is inevitably the environmentally conscience choice for some people.

Artwork by John Svenson

I first saw Johns work in the late 2000’s on the cover of Alpinist Magazine. When we moved to Haines, we were even more stoked to learn that he his one of our close neighbours! Despite his near celebrity status in niche mountain circles as a pioneer of climbing in the area and an incredible artist, John is one of one of the coolest folks we know. He has been super generous with his artwork since the very beginning of Fairweather and we are honored to have his work on our boards.

May be an image of ‎one or more people, people standing, snow, people skiing and ‎text that says '‎My "Fairweather Ski's" Bushwacker's Totally Awesome! ه م A‎'‎‎

You can check out more of Johns work at his website https://www.extremedreams.com or visit his studio at the intersection of mud bay and chilkat state park roads.

Splitboard Bindings and Accessories

We’re proud to be an offical Spark R&D Dealer! Due to circumstances you have probably heard about, inventory on splitboard accessories has been a challenge. Therefore, we dont sell splitboard bindings or hardware separate from our snowboards. Thanks for your understanding!

Spark Splitboard Clips (included)

Spark Splitboard clips are included on all of our splitboards. When I started splitboarding almost 15 years ago, I was immediately underwhelmed by the Voile clips that are still made today. After trying many of the other commercially available styles and embarking on a determined crusade, which for a period involved machining our own in-house, our hats are off to the engineers @ Spark R&D for inventing what we think is the best clip system available. Simple, no unnecessarily flopping moving parts and a tip clip that stays locked have put the days of sketchy high speed runouts with both halves of your board flopping independently a thing of the past. For those who have been there, man those were good times, but we’re all glad we survived!

Spark Arc Size Small $429

Weight: 1.38lbs/ea (626g) – 2.77lbs/pr (1256g) – Medium

The baseplate is CNC machined with maximum cutouts to shave weight yet maintain strength and performance while incorporating our industry-leading Tesla T1 binding anatomy. All Arc bindings feature a medium flex version of our Rip ‘N’ Flip highbacks and smaller profile Pillow Line ankle straps with flex windows for a nice surfy ride down.

Spark Surge Sizes Med & Lg $459

Weight: 1.50lbs/ea (680g) – 3.01lbs/pr (1365g) – Medium

The Surge is built for big days on big lines, and is preferred by our bigger or more aggressive riders. Solid baseplate design, stiffer Rip ‘N’ Flip highbacks, and more supportive Pillow Line ankle straps combine to give riders greater control in demanding terrain. All Surge bindings incorporate our industry-leading Tesla T1 technology.

Splitboard Pucks $80

Channel-like stance adjustability for splitboards built with inserts. Believe it. This breakthrough in design has riders beyond stoked, and has made Spark Pucks our most popular splitboard accessory.

Weight: 10.19oz/pr (289g)

Spark Summit Splitboard Skins $209

Summit Skins are a full nylon custom design manufactured in the USA. They’re lightweight and feature solid grip with improved glide. The longer-lasting glue is laid down in multiple stripes to be sticky on your board, but not too sticky to pull apart. Summit Skins are made for real backcountry touring, not just pristine skin tracks. They’re built to be durable and to keep gripping and gliding their way through anything the skin track brings – deep pow, steep ice, spring slush, extreme cold, dirt, rocks, and roots.

Summit Skins feature our versatile tip and tail clips. These clips work with the ever-changing variety of board shapes on the market. Dual angled hooks accommodate pointy to blunt profiles and everything in between. Extended slots in the tailclip offer boundless adjustability for the perfect combination of position, angle, and tail stretcher tension with your board.

Weight: 0.72lb/ea (328g) – 1.45lb/pr (657g) – Medium

I’ve been snowboarding for almost three decades and I travel a lot chasing snow all over the globe. So, I was looking for one board to ride it all. Something I can trust in big terrain but is still fun on mellow pow days. The Dangler handles everything you throw at it! From big mountain lines in Alaska to snowboard mountaineering in the Swiss Alps or mellow tree line runs in Montana’s Cold Smoke. The Dangler is my go-to!

I was a little anxious that this might be a stiff and heavy big-mountain board that needs speed and steepness to turn – a typical big gun – but far from it! I was pleasantly surprised with the versatility of this board.

The sustainably harvested Sitka spruce core is very light weight and super lively. The board just feels good! It’s by far the most soulful deck I’ve ever ridden! You can feel the love that was put into its creation in every turn. It’s responsive and thanks to the low camber between the feet, it is snappy and easy to load up. I love having a somewhat tapered but full-size tail which lets you finish your turns and pop into the next one without washing out. It’s not the most aggressive profile but it holds an edge well on anything – the “Mountain Velcro” helps with that as well.

The Dangler’s side cut will allow you to really crank it up and ride those powerful, large open pow turns full charge. The relatively short running length helps with turn initiation, which makes the Dangler very quick edge to edge when you need it. Be it in sluffed out couloirs, hard packed or icy shoots as well as through tight trees. Sometimes you just need your board to hold on – the Dangler’s got your back!

The directional profile with a big, early rise nose and the tapered tail makes this float effortlessly. On top of that, the Dangler does really well in choppy chunder. It’s the perfect combo of snappy and damp. What I was most surprised about was how nimble it is! It’s really easy to ride and very quick edge to edge. The Dangler doesn’t tire you out on that crappy last stretch back to the car through variable forest conditions and on icy access road traverses.

All in all, if you are looking for a board you can place your trust in, a lively and soulful ride that is fun on any kind of terrain, if you care about community, sustainability and family businesses and want to ride a piece of art made by wonderful people – the Fairweather Dangler is for you!

This review is long overdue (sorry it took me so long Fairweather!)…I’m not an expert, backcountry rider and definitely don’t know all the fancy lingo anymore, but I’ve been riding for 20 years and have owned a few boards that I’ve loved. This board has blown them all out of the water. I was looking for a ride that could work better in the steeper, deeper terrain than my previous more east coast, park oriented boards yet could still ride smooth in all the varied conditions and terrain this world has to offer.
The Dangler has not disappointed and has handled everything Alaska has thrown our way the last 2 seasons. I won’t reiterate everything listed in the product description or the previous review here because they both say it all better than I could ever articulate.

What I will emphasize is the business that created this ride! I met Graham in person at the shop when I was wandering around Haines one day and he was with me every step of the way after I left, from discussing materials and the company’s process(es) to recommending techniques for keeping the board fresh season after season. I love the fact that this is a local Southeast Alaska business which uses local, sustainable resources. You can tell this business and their products are a labor of love for Graham, his family, and their partners/employees. I can’t wait to ride it everywhere and anywhere the snow sliding life will take me. See y’all in the mountains!
